CPR & First Aid Course Descriptions

The following are the classes that are regularly offered through our program. 


Heartsaver ® CPR/AED -­- In-­Person Course

The AHA's Heartsaver CPR AED Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2015 American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care. This course is designed to prepare students to provide CPR and use an AED in a safe, timely, and effective manner.

Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a Heartsaver CPR AED course completion e-card, valid for two years.

After completing this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe how high-quality CPR improves survival
  • Explain the concepts of the Chain of Survival
  • Recognize when someone needs CPR
  • Perform high-quality CPR for an adult
  • Describe how to perform CPR with help from others
  • Give effective breaths by using mouth-to-mouth or a mask for all age groups
  • Demonstrate how to use an AED on an adult
  • Perform high-quality CPR for a child*
  • Demonstrate how to use an AED on a child*
  • Perform high-quality CPR for an infant*
  • Describe when and how to help a choking adult or child
  • Demonstrate how to help a choking infant*

*Child/Infant Module is optional

Heartsaver courses are intended for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements. These courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.

Time: 3.5-4 hours


Heartsaver ® First Aid CPR/AED -­- Online & In-­Person Skills Check

The AHA's Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2015 American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care and the 2015 American Heart Association and American Red Cross Update for First Aid. This course is designed to prepare students to provide first aid, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner.

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Online is the eLearning portion of the Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED blended learning course and is designed to teach students the cognitive information needed for first aid, CPR, and AED training.

Upon successful completion of both the online and hands-on portions of the course, students receive a Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course completion e-card, valid for two years.

After completing this course, students will be able to:

  • Recognize elements of common injuries
  • Recognize elements of common illnesses
  • Describe how to find information on preventing illness and injury
  • Recognize the legal questions that apply to first aid rescuers

Time: 3-5 hours online, 2 hours in-person

Hands Only CPR -- In-Person Course

The AHA's Hands Only CPR Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2015 American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care. This course is designed to prepare students to respond to a sudden cardiac arrest in a safe, timely, and effective manner.  No certification is issued.

After completing this course students should be able to:

  • Assess a victim
  • Know when and how to activate the EMS system
  • Recognize when someone needs CPR
  • Perform high-quality HANDS ONLY CPR for an adult
  • Understand the importance of using an AED
  • Know the warning signs of a heart attack and stroke
  • Know when and how to help a choking adult or child

Hands Only CPR course is intended for anyone with little or no medical training who needs to know how to respond to a sudden cardiac arrest.  This course can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.

This course is only offered to groups of 8 or more. Large group discounts are available by request.

Time: 1-1.5 hours, varies based on size of group
