WO Willie Williams Scholarship Fund
Willie Williams founded Wilderness Orientation in 1983. Willie saw the need for new students to build meaningful friendships to help their transition to UCSC. With a background in Outward Bound and adventure education, Willie understood the ways in which shared challenges in remote places can build these strong friendships. Much of the current WO curriculum continues to draw upon that vision.
Each year approximately 130 first-year and transfer students join Wilderness Orientation. Thanks to your donations, 25-30 of these students receive financial scholarships to go on WO. These students would not be able to experience the rich benefits of WO without these scholarships.
Please consider donating to the Wilderness Orientation Willie Williams Scholarship Fund. Your donation helps to secure opportunities to attend WO for all incoming UCSC students, regardless of financial means.
In 2019, $10,100 was allocated to 16 students. The average fee reduction provided was $631.
